Verizon Getting iPhone?
The perpetual question gets another boost today via this report from USA Today:
Verizon and Apple are discussing the possible development of an iPhone for Verizon, with the goal of introducing it next year, people familiar with the situation say.
AdvertisementIt would mark the first time Apple has produced a version of the iPhone for a CDMA wireless network, which is different from AT&T’s GSM technology. Vodafone, co-owner of Verizon Wireless, already sells the iPhone in Europe.
So I write about this because I want an iPhone. But I can’t get one because there is Just.No.Way I can switch to ATT. The most reliable network I can get is Verizon — I’ve only lost or not gotten signals in two places: Aberdeen Proving Ground and Brooten, MN. So this is me crossing my fingers. The other phone that I think I’d love is the upcoming Palm Pre. But that won’t be on Verizon, either.
What do you think? Would you get an iPhone if it were on Verizon?
OMG…hyperventilating. Want!!!!
I have Verizon because I can get a discount through work.
I wouldn’t have Verizon willingly, if it were the last communications company on Earth.
That being said, I love my iPhone.
Most of the people I know who had ATT ditched it — just too hard to get and keep a signal in some places. A man I’m on a Foundation Board with ditched ATT, but kept his iPhone for the data management.
The Iphone is worth AT&T. But I don’t make many calls.
What a bunch of iTools 🙂
I want a reliable wireless data signal that is device-agnostic, so I can use it for voice or data on a reasonable number of different devices which I may program or reprogram.
And I want it available from two or three different vendors who have frequesnt price wars for my business.
Is that too much to ask?
How un-American of you, anon, to demand real Free Markets!
Depends on the price. But I don’t really use my personal cell phone, so I’m guessing no, unless it’s pretty cheap or I don’t buy a Kindle between now and when the iphones get on Verizon
The Kindle is numbero uno on my b-day list.
Remember, ATT uses the world-standard, VZ is U.S. centric. So when the new world order comes, your Verizon iPhone will be a nice paperweight. 🙂
Officially, I cannot comment on any of this.
When the new world order comes, I hope that there is another choice besides ATT. Otherwise, it’s back to landlines for me!
luddite!!!
AT&T is better down here than Verizon. I still sent my iPhone back though. What do I really need it for? My old phone still works great and it has a camera in it.
I never understood the attraction of typing with your thumbs while looking at a tiny screen. I wouldn’t want to go any smaller than a 8-10″ netbook that fits in a backpack.
A cell phone should just a phone, and it should be small and cheap, so you don’t have to panic if it gets lost or broken.
I’m sitting at the Woz’s front stoop in protest of not opening the IPhone to Verizon sooner!
