Here is the day in 2016 that I'm looking forward to. It is the day when whatever passes for the Delaware Republican establishment falls in love with their presidential nominee. Ken Simpler, Charlie Copeland and Dave Burris presently consider unthinkable that they will backing Donald Trump, but a 180 degree changing of their tunes is inevitable. Josh Marshall at TPM puts it succinctly:

People of all stripes have a great ability to decide that what they cannot prevent is in fact awesome. I would go as far as to say that the big thing to watch right now, the big event, isn't so much Trump and Cruz's poll numbers and whether they'll hold up as the increasing signs that the Republican party is beginning the process of embracing that outcome.

It will take some mighty rationalizations, but just wait for it. The Trump (or Cruz) train is coming, and Copeland, Burris and Simple [the smart, reasonable and sober Republicans] are not only going to board it, but they are going to be its Delaware conductors.

Eschewing the advice of poet Dylan Thomas, Lindsey Graham ended his campaign with a whimper, not a bang.

Republican presidential candidate Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told CNN's Kate Balduan on Monday that he was dropping out of the 2016 race. The South Carolina senator said he was satisfied with how his unsuccessful campaign played out. “The one thing I feel really good about is I did it with a smile on my face," he told Balduan. "I talked about things that are important to me, and somebody better fix one day." Graham said that he planned to remain active in shaping Republican Party politics. "I will suspend my campaign. I'm not going to suspend my desire to help the country," he said.

UPDATE: Congressional Candidate, Bryon Sort has called for Congress to lift the ban on gun violence research, and "to start supporting a data-driven and scientific approach to a solution." No word yet from Coons or Carney.

A group of GOP leaders held a hush-hush meeting at a Washington, DC, restaurant to discuss the possibility of having a brokered convention next year so that they could find an alternative to Donald Trump, according to a report. Republican National Committee Chairman ­Reince Priebus held the meeting with establishment GOP honchos, such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Washington Post reported. They listened to other GOP bigwigs talk about how, if the billionaire New York developer scored a large number of delegates in the primaries, they could mount a floor fight and get the party to back some other candidate, the report said.

House Speaker Paul Ryan broke from his habit of avoiding comment on the 2016 presidential race to strongly condemn Donald Trump’s call for a ban on Muslim immigration to the US during Tuesday’s House GOP press conference. “What was proposed yesterday is not what this party stands for and more importantly it's not what this country stands for," Ryan said.

Delaware Governor Jack Markell, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery in the United States, announced on Sunday a resolution to officially apologize for his state’s role in slavery. "We must publicly and candidly acknowledge the lasting damage of past sins – damage that continues to reverberate more than 150 years after the abolition of slavery," Markell told worshippers at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Wilmington, Delaware, his office said. Copeland has a point. If he was running as a Democrat, (instead of the guy who is next in line to be Governor) he could easily say, "Hell, yes I support the $15.05 minimum wage." But his political career isn't about values, it is about not saying shit that someone might not like.
