The Obama Administration said that they wanted an open and frank dialogue with sustainable and small business leaders and in a late afternoon tax policy session, they got it. Aviva Aron-Dine, Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy fielded questions from about thirty ASBC members who presented the administration with a list of Tax Policy Principles formulated by the group and spoke with a unified voice against tax cuts and tax credits as a means to restore the economy. "We are here to tell you flat out that tax credits do not influence hiring." one ASBC member said. Another member added that when the Administration proposes tax cuts and tax credits as a means for restoring the economy, that it only serves to bolster the administration's congressional critics argument that he is not cutting taxes and slashing spending fast enough.

As part of getting the Delaware Business for Social Responsibility (DBSR) going, I'll be your representative at the ASBC Summit this week. The agenda includes a keynote by Hilda Solis, Secretary of the Department of Labor, as well as panels on Sustainable Economic Growth & Innovation with panelists like Jonathan Greenblatt, Director, White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Engagement.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) accused House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) of deliberately sabotaging the economy for partisan gain. “You have heard, as I’ve heard, that there’s a battle going on between Cantor and [House Speaker John] Boehner as to whether or not there should be a [highway] bill,” Reid told reporters. “Cantor, of course — I’m told by others that he wants to not do a bill to make the economy worse, because he feels that’s better for them. I hope that’s not true.”

Except for a few pockets of irredeemable craziness, the notion that gay people should be reviled and disenfranchised has been put to rest. The gays won. Agreed? But how, and what can progressives learn from the way gays won?

I think he would have made a hell of a better Vice-President (in spite of his vices) than Dick Cheney. Cheney was a bloodthirsty psychopath. I don't watch any TV news because if you know a little bit about what is going on, you know what complete garbage TV news has become. Seriously, if I happen to be in the same room as a TV tuned to say... ABC's version of the evening news, I can't make it two minutes before yell, "Way to quote "The Club for Growth" like it is a legitimate source you morons!" This is distracting to other TV watchers, who don't know that ABC news is quoting right-wing press releases as though they landed some kind of scoop. Some people I know used to watch CNN, but when ratings started to fall, CNN thought they'd retool as "the other Fox News" which was a f#cking stupid idea on so many levels. Now they are paying the price for that stupidity.

This is pretty typical for the reality impaired GOP. They want to force insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions without an individual mandate that would create a big enough risk pool to pay for that coverage. I have no doubt that they will propose some magical unicorn financing system which will make the system viable. Perhaps Iraq War oil revenue...?
