Did I Hear This Correctly?

Evan Q was just on Rick Jensen’s show, and I think I heard this:

Evan said O’Donnell would probably attend the debate tomorrow night if the questions were provided beforehand.  Jensen was shocked, started saying that he had never run a debate where the candidate had the questions beforehand, and then… they immediately went to a break.  The topic never came up again – even though Jensen said it would continue after the break.  So… did I hear this correctly?

Last Night I Was Shocked, Today It Makes Sense

Last night I couldn’t believe Christine O’Donnell beat Mike Castle.  I walked around stunned.  How could this happen?  And then I realized what happened.  Why wouldn’t she win?  For far too many years the entire Republican Party has fed their supporters a steady diet of issue-less tripe.  They’ve run on liberty, freedom, real America, family values, Christian nation, etc.  Even their claim of “less government” rings hollow due to lack of specifics.  But today’s GOP doesn’t do specifics – they simply call their opponent names (commie lib, socialist, etc), question their Americanism, and wrap themselves in their god and the flag.

So why wouldn’t O’Donnell win?  Ideology trump issues.  That has been the GOP message for years.  Last night establishment Republicans lost to their own strategy.

Senior Delaware GOP Official Recieves Death Threat

I have just received an email sent to a Senior GOP Official (unnamed).  The individual who sent the email signed his own name and used his own email account.  The email is posted below:

“Subject: You deserve a bullet in the head!

Dear [Senior GOP Official],

It is one thing to have your country screwed over by socialists, it is far worse to be backstabbed by people pretending to be your friends.
Political ass-kissing RINO’s like you deserve a bullet in the head.
We will either rid the GOP of pieces of shit like you, or we will start a new ‘Common Sense Conservative’ party and render you all useless.”
The police are investigating this individual, and are taking the threat seriously.
Have we really come to this?  I want my country back.

Christine Loves Her Some Innuendo

Pass the popcorn!  And break out those… man-pants?

O’Donnell appeared last on Mark Levin’s radio show, and fired back at an FEC complaint that was filed by the Delaware Republican Party, which supports Castle, alleging that she has illegally coordinated her campaign activities with the Tea Party Express.

“You know, these are the kind of cheap, underhanded, un-manly tactics that we’ve come to expect from Obama’s favorite Republican, Mike Castle,” said O’Donnell. “You know, I released a statement today, saying Mike this is not a bake-off, get your man-pants on. (Laughs)

C’mon

“Pastor” Jones is only a symptom of the real problem.

Speaking just now on MSNBC James Zogby made a very good point — and pressed Andrea Mitchell on it. His point was that sure, this Pastor Jones fool is one guy, who’s managed to get worldwide attention for his stunt.  But you cannot separate him, as I noted below, from the whole climate of hate speech and anti-Muslim agitation from the Newt Gingriches and the Sarah Palins and the rest of them.

At that point, Mitchell jumped in and said, wait, Palin said she disagrees with the Koran burning. To which Zogby replied, something to the effect of ‘C’mon’.  And that’s just the right reply.

The lone wolves are part of a bigger pack.

And here’s more evidence from the No Sh*t department.  (Via The Plum Line)

We now have clear evidence that there’s a direct link between public anti-Islam sentiment and public opposition to the construction of Cordoba House, a.k.a. the “Ground Zero mosque.”

The evidence can be found in the internals of the new Washington Post poll on Islam and the planned center, and it was provided to me by Post polling director Jon Cohen. The numbers directly contradict the claim by opponents that public opposition to the project is not linked to broader anti-Islam sentiment, and is only rooted in a desire to be sensitive to 9/11 families or to respect Ground Zero as hallowed ground.

The poll’s toplines show that 66 percent of Americans oppose the Islamic center. Separately, a plurality, 49 percent, has generally unfavorable views of Islam.

But it’s the intersection of these numbers revealed in the internals that proves the point.

Here’s the rub: According to the internals sent my way, opposition to the “Ground Zero mosque” is overwhelmingly driven by those with an unfavorable view of Islam:

A Little Birdie Told Me To Tune In To WDEL This Afternoon

Actually, the birdie sent me a copy of an email:

Common Sense Communities Society Executive Director Evan Queitsch will be appearing on the Rick Jensen show on Tuesday September 7th at 1:30PM.  He will be discussing the many Delaware races especially the U.S. Senate Race with Christine O’Donnell.  You can be sure that he will be answering some of the lies that are being spread by the Delaware GOP leadership and Congressman Mike Castle.

Hopefully there won’t be any video cameras, since we’re all familiar with Evan’s bad behavior and chest-puffing immaturity.

O’Donnell Graduates!

Our gal of the week, Christine O’Donnell finally recieved her degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.   And in typical O’Donnell fashion there’s conflicting stories…

Citing privacy reasons, Giglio [assistant director of public relations at the Madison, N.J] could not explain the reasoning behind the timing, but O’Donnell’s campaign manager said Friday the candidate met a final course requirement this summer.

“She’s gone through the process to receive her degree, that’s not the story. She fulfilled the last course requirement this summer. It was just a general elective course,” said O’Donnell campaign manager Matt Moran.

But that contradicts previous explanations O’Donnell has given about her education history.

Contradictory stories from the O’Donnell camp?  Well, knock me over with a feather!

Her 2006 Senate campaign website described her as a “graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University.” In March of this year, she told the Delaware News Journal that FDU was withholding her diploma because she had not yet paid off her student loans. “I finished the coursework,” O’Donnell told the newspaper.

Okay, so which is it?  Was her diploma withheld because she didn’t fulfill a course requirement, or because she hadn’t paid off her student loans?  Or is she just a serial liar?

Cenk Uygur Rocks

The video below should be required viewing for every Dem politician.  This is how to fight back.

Republicans want to eliminate Social Security (and Medicare/Medicaid).  And why Democrats aren’t screaming this fact from the rooftops (like Cenk) escapes me.  More of this, please!

Hurricane Earl – Batten Down The Hatches… Or Not?

Looks like I left the beach just in time

As of 11 a.m., Hurricane Earl was positioned 725 miles south southeast of Cape Hatteras and is moving northwest at 17 mph. Most computer models continue to indicate Earl will remain offshore though a couple have the center briefly passing over the North Carolina outer banks, where hurricane watches remain in effect. These watches have been extended to cover the VA/MD/DE beaches. Earl’s maximum sustained winds are 125 mph, down from 135 mph this yesterday — making it a Category 3 storm.

For the VA/MD/DE beaches, impacts will likely be less pronounced but not insignificant. Some showers and wind gusts to tropical-storm force are possible late Thursday night into Friday, with strong wave action, dangerous rip currents, and the possibility of minor coastal flooding. Though a hurricane watch has been issued for the VA/MD/DE beaches, hurricane force winds are not especially likely there unless the storm shifts west.

Darksyde at Kos adds an Update: I’ve just been told some noon models show a slight shift toward the west. Which is not the way we want it go.

Okay, time to turn on the weather channel and figure out which way this hurricane is heading.

More Terrorizing Of Muslims

Looks like this is the path we’re on…

NEW YORK — In the latest in a spate of anti-Muslim incidents over the last two days, an intoxicated man entered a mosque in Queens on Wednesday evening and proceeded to urinate on prayer rugs, New York police officials said.

The man, identified as Omar Rivera, reportedly shouted anti-Muslim epithets and called worshippers who had gathered for evening prayer “terrorists.” One witness told the New York Post the man was “very clearly intoxicated” and had a beer bottle in his hand at the time.

“He stuck up his middle finger and cursed at everyone,” Mustapha Sadouki, who was at the mosque at the time, said. “He calls us terrorists, yet he comes into our mosque and terrorizes other people.”

We, as a country, have lost our minds.
