The Coons Doctrine: “The USA must constantly prove that we have the biggest dick”

The Coons Doctrine: “The USA must constantly prove that we have the biggest dick”

I tried to come up with a phrasing of the Coons Doctrine which captured Senator Coons’ claim that the United States must constantly demonstrate Bushian levels of breathtaking and ill-conceived belligerence on a world wide scale, or else be perceived as pussies. I think I only partially captured it.

We’ve seen this idiotic foreign policy doctrine promoted before. Usually it is territory covered by cretins like John Bolton and Dick Cheney. To hear it promoted by our blue state Democratic Senator is truly startling. Coons appears to be taking former Ct Senator Joe Lieberman as a foreign policy godfather. If it is true and Coons is guided by Lieberman on foreign policy and Carper on domestic policy – I can’t help but wonder what good he can possibly be to his Delaware constituents?

That isn’t to say that Christine O’Donnell would have been better, but at least O’Donnell would have been a one termer. Coons, being a Democrat, has a lifetime sinecure in the Senate. Let that sink in as you consider the fact that Coons laments the fact that we didn’t go to war in Syrian.

God does not love me this much, does he?

Former Half Term Alaska Governor and Reality TV star Sarah Palin told Sean Hannity last night that she is considering running for Senate in 2014 against Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK). Presumably she would be in a primary with the failed Republican 2010 Senate nominee Joe Miller, who, as a tea party insurgent, beat Lisa Murkowski in the GOP Primary only to see Murkowski win as an independent candidate a la Joe Lieberman.

Now, check out this statement that the Queen of Dictation and Grammar made on the Hannity Hate Hour….

The C

The C

This brilliance is brought to you by Mat Marshall on Facebook….

BREAKING: Sen. Carper seen flashing gang signs en route to chair a Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee hearing. Carper is reported to have poured out a half-empty Colt 45 for retired Senator Joe Lieberman shortly before throwing up three fingers on each hand, representing Delaware’s “Three ‘C’s,” chicken, credit, and chemicals.

Experts also note that the symbolism of the letter “C” extends to refer to Carper, Sen. Chris Coons, Congressman John Carney, and former Congressman Mike Castle, as well as Chrysler, the manufacturer of Carper’s iconic minivan, seen here.

Capitol Police declined to comment on the prevalence of gangs on Capitol Hill, but stress that Hill Gangs have ranged in size from Gangs of Six to Gangs of Fourteen in the past.

In reality, this photo was from Senator Carper’s Facebook account, and the “gang signs” are really Carper and his staff showing that his trusty old minivan has just hit 333,000 miles, which is impressive for the state’s longest traveled political prop.

Jacob Hacker Endorses Medicare Buy-in

Filed in National by on December 14, 2009 3 Comments

Even though apparently Joe Lieberman and Ben Nelson are now bad-mouthing a deal they helped to make, Jacob Hacker was in the news last week endorsing the Medicare Buy-In. Hacker being pretty much the Godfather of the Public Option. The complete interview on this (including others) is here on the PBS website, but this piece from Hacker is important:

Kathy McGuiness Has No Shame.  Of course, that’s a ‘dog bites man’ headline.  But this isn’t: Delaware Auditor Kathy McGuiness has asked a local judge to make taxpayers foot the bill for her legal defense as she fights criminal corruption charges. A seven-page motion filed by her private attorney, Steve Wood, on Thursday cites a Delaware […]

The Intercept got ahold of a Zoom call between West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin and a centrist money-dispensing outfit called No Labels — founded by ex-Sen. Joe Lieberman — in which Manchin reveals his true feelings about filibuster reform, among other things. Most noteworthy to me was Manchin’s begging these donors to help him find […]

The Dysfunctional Relationship Between Trump And Intelligence Agencies.  A must-read on how Trump’s biases have led to changes in intelligence reports–mustn’t make him angry. This is bad. If Biden goes with Klobuchar it will make Gore’s selection of Joe Lieberman look good in comparison.

Jill Biden Admits – Campaign Already on the Ropes, Gasping for Air

Jesus. Jill Biden is a fucking national treasure, but hang it up already. Democrats have tried and failed to scold voters into trudging to the voting booth because “centrism” and it hasn’t FUCKING WORKED!!! What do you not get about that?

“You may like another candidate better, but you have to look at who is going to win,” she said, citing Mr. Biden’s consistent lead in early surveys.

You don’t go to that line until you know that your candidate doesn’t have the juice. From the same article, here is a tidy review of that strategy:

Ed Kilgore says Trump’s assassination “joke” was thinly veiled sedition:

Donald Trump managed to descend to new depths today by repeating a tedious gun-lobby argument that Hillary Clinton wants to “essentially abolish the Second Amendment” and then turning it into a “joking” suggestion that “Second-Amendment people” might hold the only way to deal with that threat. Nothing like a little assassination humor to liven things up on the campaign trail, eh?

But even as they condemn the shocking utterance, a lot of observers seem to be missing the fact that Trump is adapting a dangerously common right-wing claim. It’s that the most important purpose of the Second Amendment is not to allow people to defend themselves from robbers and muggers and would-be murderers and rapists if the police cannot get the job done, but rather to create a heavily armed populace prepared to undertake revolutionary violence if the government tries to impose “tyranny.” Let’s be clear about this doctrine: It lets the gun-wielders decide for themselves whether high taxes or government surveillance or Obamacare is a sufficient threat to liberty to justify getting out the shooting irons and killing the police officers and armed-services members assigned the responsibility of enforcing the “tyrannical” laws in question. And conservative politicians have often made it clear they understand and are okay with that incredible risk, as when Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle referred cheerfully to “Second-Amendment remedies” for the liberal policies supported by her opponent, Harry Reid. Angle was hardly alone: During the Republican presidential primaries this cycle, Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz both endorsed the idea of gun rights being a safeguard against too much Big Government liberalism.

Hillary Clinton reached out to Bernie Sanders in her Philadelphia victory speech tonight in an effort to begin to bridge the gap between their two campaigns.

“And I applaud Senator Sanders for challenging us to get unaccountable money out of our politics, and giving greater emphasis to closing the gap of inequality and I know together we will get that done,” she promised. “Whether you support Senator Sanders or you support me, there’s much more that unites us than divides us,” she added. Clinton then outlined some of those issues where we are united. “We all agree that wages are too low and inequality is too high. That Wall Street can never again be allowed to threaten Main Street. And we should expand Social Security, not cut or privatize it.”

Bernie Sanders, for his part, was also conciliatory and realistic as to the goals of his campaign going forward. From a statement released to the press last night:

“I congratulate Secretary Clinton on her victories tonight, and I look forward to issue-oriented campaigns in the 14 contests to come. […]

“The people in every state in this country should have the right to determine who they want as president and what the agenda of the Democratic Party should be. That’s why we are in this race until the last vote is cast. That is why this campaign is going to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia with as many delegates as possible to fight for a progressive party platform that calls for a $15 an hour minimum wage, an end to our disastrous trade policies, a Medicare-for-all health care system, breaking up Wall Street financial institutions, ending fracking in our country, making public colleges and universities tuition free and passing a carbon tax so we can effectively address the planetary crisis of climate change.”

I am fine with all that. Fight for the Platform. I really have never viewed the Sanders presidential campaign as a campaign to elect Bernie Sanders President. Rather, it really was a campaign to keep the Democratic Party in the progressive column. Indeed, Hillary and Bernie might make a good team going forward. No, not as a ticket. That is a demotion for Sanders to be her VP. No, Bernie can use his position in the Senate to advance the progressive agenda while working with Hillary Clinton on issues where they agree with each other and can get things done. Bernie will keep the party anchored to the left.
