Obama raises 66 MILLION in August!

WASHINGTON — Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign announced Sunday that it raised $66 million in August, marking another record fundraising month for the Democrat. The August total was second to the $55 million Obama raised last February.

He reached the $66 million mark with help from more than a half million new donors.

Obama’s total for August was almost $20 million more than the $47 million Republican rival John McCain raised last month.

Let’s make September even better!

Boots on the Ground

Summering with a Hillary supporter has been trying, to say the least. However, sometimes between the “Obama has to throw a punch” and the constant citing of the doom and gloom daily Gallop poll the debate triggers a “light bulb over the head” moment.

This Hillary supporter doesn’t recognize what Obama is doing because he’s never seen anything like it.

While millions may be spent on advertising, so too is one campaign spending millions on ground game while the other is spending virtually nothing. Obama is investing more massively than any campaign in the history of American politics on the ground game. McCain is essentially not investing in ground. His early summer numbers of 20,000 phone calls nationwide for a whole month would be those of a single, low-budget House campaign. That’s the equivalent of one person working ten hours a day for a month. For the entire nation. It’s basically the equivalent of zero contacts. When Martin writes that McCain’s ground campaign is revving up, it’s essentially starting from nothing and is now in 1st gear.

Obama is doing exactly what he needs to do. He’s registering new voters. After all, elections are the ultimate numbers game. It’s a ground game, as well, and one McCain has completely ignored.

How many new voters tip Virginia, Colorado, etc. from red to blue? Bet the Obama camp knows.

A 22 million dollar error?

Obama raised 52 million in the month of June.

The numbers are in for June, and they put to rest some of the fretting over whether his money machine was slowing.

Tough to be the Wall Street Journal, which last week reported that Obama would bring in just a little over $30 million.

From an email to supporters from Obama campaign manager David Plouffe:

We have some big news we want to share with you.
Because of your generosity and commitment, we’re reporting to the press today that this campaign is in a very strong financial position.

In the month of June, supporters like you helped raise $52 million.

But more impressive than the number is how you did it. Hundreds of thousands of ordinary people contributed to building our campaign for change. Many were first-time donors, giving only what they could afford — and the average donation was just $68.

Hmmm… How did the Wall Street Journal get it so wrong? 22 million is a big number. Coincidentally, it’s also the exact amount the McCain campaign raised in June. Oh, the irony!

Pay attention. This is what we don’t want to do, or… All Hands on Deck

The Republican Party is in trouble. I know this because I recognize the signs. They are acting like… well… Democrats.

Conservative activists are preparing to do battle with allies of Sen. John McCain in advance of September’s Republican National Convention, hoping to prevent his views on global warming, immigration, stem cell research and campaign finance from becoming enshrined in the party’s official declaration of principles.

Sound familiar?

The Republican Party has splintered, but that doesn’t necessarily equate with a November loss. Victory or defeat lies in our hands. I’ve never demanded purity politics from a politician – and Obama is, and always was, a politician. A smart politician. How smart are we? Smart enough to pick our battles?

For example, I do not want Senator Obama engaging in debates on guns or abortions. What I want is President Obama appointing Supreme Court Judges. I do not want Senator Obama filibustering FISA – providing endless sound bites for the MSM and the Republicans. I want President Obama to restore the Constitution.

See the difference?

I had almost forgotten about Nader

Until he said this about Obama.

“He wants to show that he is not a threatening . . . another politically threatening African-American politician. He wants to appeal to white guilt. You appeal to white guilt not by coming on as black is beautiful, black is powerful. Basically he’s coming on as someone who is not going to threaten the white power structure, whether it’s corporate or whether it’s simply oligarchic. And they love it. Whites just eat it up.”

Spoken like a true “white” guy.
What is it about this election season that’s bringing out the stupid?

Now I’m not saying race isn’t a factor in this election, but, come on, the black is beautiful and black power slogans are so not groovy anymore.
Actually, what I believe we’re seeing is the changing of the guard, or, if you’d prefer, the extinction of political dinosaurs. I’m beginning to feel sorry for these old cats.

Where are the McCain bumper stickers?

No, seriously, where are they?

This morning when I took my walk I decided to play the bumper sticker game. (I know, pathetic.) Since I am living in Fenwick for the summer and 99% of my neighbors are republican (not an exaggeration) I truly expected to find at least one McCain bumper sticker. Lord knows, the place was swarming with “W” stickers for the last eight years. Funny how they’ve disappeared as well.

Granted my game isn’t a scientific measure, but I found the visual absence of McCain “support” in a republican friendly area quite telling.

Equally telling… I saw four Obama stickers! Should be an interesting summer…

Obama is an issue hog

Geez, doesn’t Obama know that 9/11 is a Republican issue? Didn’t he get the memo that said: Democrats must defer to Republicans on National Security and all things 9/11?

Obviously not, or he’d never have said…

“I refuse to be lectured on national security by people who are responsible for the most disastrous set of foreign policy decisions in the recent history of the United States. The other side likes to use 9/11 as a political bludgeon. Well, let’s talk about 9/11.

Oh my. Is nothing sacred anymore? Thank goodness McCain has the environmental issue to fall back on. Umm… maybe not since greedy Al Gore won’t let go of that one.

Could someone help me out here? What exactly are McCain’s issues?
