Coons Leads Gordon by 30%

Right now Al is taking down the dishonest Joe Pika/NJ story on Gordon.

Here is something I didn’t know because I don’t read the dead tree edition:

– the NJ editors cut a poll showing Gordon was a non-starter but quoted Joe Pika as if he had a shot.

God, I wish we had a real newspaper in this state.

Update by Delaware Dem: I was just about to post a story about Al’s comments on WDEL.  But instead I will put it here:

Al Mascitti states that Tom Gordon was the most effective county executive New Castle County ever had.  And yet he would not vote for him with someone else’s finger.    I think that captures precisely how I feel about Tom Gordon.  Yeah, he was good.   But he was also corrupt without authoritarian tendencies.

How Do You Really Feel?

Monotone GOP booster and Nixon buddy, Ben Stein says:

“Mr. McCain is running the absolute most pathetic campaign I have ever seen in my whole life,” Stein said in his unmistakable monotone delivery. “His campaign is just heartbreakingly pathetic. He is a very impressive guy. He is a brave guy, but he is running the most lackluster campaign I have ever seen in my entire life. I would have thought Bob Dole’s campaign would have set a record for poor campaigns, but this one is even worse. I mean it is shocking.”

I looks like the traditional media, which wants this to be a close presidential race, has its work cut out for it.

oh look, McCain IS getting a pass…..

The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.

During the evening news, the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral, the center found. And when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% negative.

Just shocking, shocking news

Catholics take on Pope over birth control

” More than 50 dissident Catholic groups from around the world have written an open letter asking Pope Benedict XVI to lift the church’s ban on birth control.”

Ya think it’s about time? And let’s face it, most Catholics ignore this little rule anyway.

Technically, the Catholic Church does approve of birth control – bad birth control called the “rhythm method”. So here are my questions: What’s the difference between artificial birth control and the rhythm method? (Besides the effectiveness) What’s the difference between using a condom and willfully and deliberately refraining from sex during ovulation when pregnancy can occur? Isn’t abstaining from sex during this time frame a conscious decision not to procreate? And, if so, how is that any different from regular birth control?

I’ve just gotta give some props to Iron Hill

Here is a post I wrote a few months ago and never posted.
……………………………………………………………………………………….
I am going to give into a temptation that haunts every political blogger from time to time. I am going to write a restaurant review.

There is a simple reason why I’m breaking my self-imposed prohibition and potentially opening up the flood gates to criticize every meal that I eat out from now until I am called home to God’s own five star bistro and that is the tuna pineapple appetizer served at the Iron Hill Brewery in Newark.

On second thought, it is the paragon of appetizers and I am sure that my meager writing skills will not do it justice. With its caramelized onion and tangy red pepper combining with the sweetness of the pineapple, it is an appetizer that should be praised from every rooftop and it deserves to have glory heaped on it. Maybe just mentioning it here might inspire other, better food writers to undertake a description of its nearly indescribable greatness.

Washington on the Delaware Shore

Today’s News Journal brought news about North Dakota Senator Kent Conrad’s Countrywide Mortgage on his Bethany Beach home.   We have also seen Robert Novak hit many Fenwick Island pedestrians with his corvette.

Indeed, Delaware’s shore is the summer home of the Washington elite.

About one in seven property owners in Delaware beach communities live within 30 miles of Washington, according to a News Journal analysis of current Sussex County property records.

So who have you all seen in and around Delaware’s beaches?

A few photo’s from the BBQ

I think the BBQ went pretty damn well. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we had a pretty good showing of people. The guests of the blogosphere included Jason, Liberalgeek, Deldem, Karmicjay, Joe M and Dana Garrett. We also had a few loyal readers amongst the crowd as well.  About 50 lbs of meat was devoured, 6 cases of beer and 6 bottles of wine was consumed over the course of 9 hours. I have a few pictures I’d like to share from the evening/day.

The first photo I will display is of Liberal geek. He had fun and people wouldn’t stop feeding him all night. He hung around the entire day and he only left after the food was gone. So all of you wondering what LG looks like, judge for yourself…

That was some storm…

I was in Elkton, Maryland earlier today for the Christening of my latest nephew, when this summer’s worst thunderstorm decided to hit just as we all were leaving the church for the party afterwards at home.  I had to drive 20 miles per hour, through lightening striking the telephone poles along road, mere feet from me and my car, through raging rapids of water cascading down the road, through downed trees and limbs covering Rt. 213, downed powerlines, and straight line winds gusting enough to push my car off the road twice.   And then when I got to the house, a massive tree limb blocked the driveway, requiring me to get out of my car to move it, all the while getting drenched.   Once in the safety of my sister’s home, the power was out.

Was it as that bad here in Delaware?

LiberalGeek is Delaware’s Hottest Blogger

A little over a year ago, a blogger claimed himself to be Delaware’s Hottest Blogger. There was no election, he was the Paul Bremer of Hot Bloggers. We had interim elections a few months ago to try to control this blogger and make him obey the rule of law. He lost that vote.  Instead, he has tried to expand his powers beyond simple hotness to toughness and attractiveness. His assertions of a Unitary Blogger are unique, tawdry and dangerous to the very fabric of our way of life.

Throughout this reign of terror, inflation has risen, salaries have remained stagnant, the Dow has dropped precipitously and Delaware’s bloggers have lost their place in the world.  Have you seen what his so-called hotness has done to gas prices?  It is time for a real change.

Together, we can do better.  Together, we can usher in a new day for hotness in the Delaware blogosphere.  Together we can fight against the tyranny of pseudo-hot bloggers and start addressing the issues that have been caused by Donviti’s hubris.  Yes, we can.

Together, we can make a statement to the world that we no longer will allow our rights as hot bloggers be dictated by the few.  The blogosphere was founded on “We the people”, not “I’m teh hotness.”  We can reclaim out rightful place in the world and put to rest the questions of hotness that have swirled around Donviti’s hotness administration.  Yes, we can.

Together, we can use out hotness to make sure Americans have healthcare when they aren’t feeling so “hot.”  Together, we can make sure that every child has an education befitting of a “hot” society.  Together, we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil to keep our homes “hot.”

Yes, we can. Yes, we can. I ask all of you to come out to Catherine Rooney’s on Thursday night to cast your vote for Delaware’s Hottest Blogger.  It is an important job that we must all complete together, and together we can send Tom Noyes to Denver and send a message that will ring throughout the blogosphere, “Our long blogging nightmare is finally over.”

Downstate Concerns

Drew Volturo of the Delaware State News tackles the Adgate story.  In it, he presents an angle ignored by the News Journal: the reaction of Kent and Sussex County Democrats.

Kent County Democratic Committee chair Abby Betts said she has received numerous calls from party members since the ad began airing.

“This has made things harder on people down here,” Ms. Betts said, noting that the county committee chose to stay neutral. ” People have been coming up ( to me) and saying that they donated money to the party. Why are they spending it against another Democrat?”

Sussex County Democrats have the uphill battle of defending three county council seats that were vacated by Democratic incumbents Monday, which likely will require state funds, said county chair Thomas Chapman.

“We view party resources as being used for Democrats getting elected over Republicans . It helps propel the whole ticket during the last seven weeks of the campaign,” Mr. Chapman said. ” The Republican Party is the
group we’re trying to compete against, not other Democrats.

“I do believe this was a decision that could have been reconsidered.”   Mr. Chapman said he expects the issue will be raised at the next state party executive committee meeting. Ms. Betts said state party funds were “very vital” in Kent County Democrats picking up a House seat and capturing a majority on Levy Court in 2006, and with several hotly contested races against GOP incumbents expected this fall, those funds will be highly sought.

“You always hope there’s enough money for everyone to get financial support,” Ms. Betts said. ” I am concerned that we’re cutting off some of our funding to our House, Senate and county races up and down the state (by spending the money in a Democratic primary).”

Like I said, it is not just bloggers upset, and our concerns are legitimate party concerns, not some spiteful resentment over the fact that Markell lost the endorsement.
