Reid boots Lieberman from party lunches

Filed in National by on September 9, 2008

Should have happened three years ago.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has told Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) that he “can no longer attend Democrats’ weekly caucus lunches or the biweekly chairmen’s lunches used to formulate policy.”

It is a start I guess…

GovExec reports that Lieberman was “virtually shunned by other Democrats when he returned to the Senate Monday.”

Not shunned by so-called Democrat Tom Carper who was merely “disapointed” by Lieberman’s speech to the RNCC, but not disapointed enough to “shun” him and call his his removal from comittee posts.

Dems should get rid of Lieberman NOW! He’s made his choice quite clear. Booting Lieberman has no downside that I can see.

Ultimately, Joe will have to answer to the voters of Connecticut.

  2. JadeGold says:

Unfortunately, this is likely a short-term measure as the caucuses are now talking campaign strategies.

  3. cassandra m says:

The people of Connecticut need to recall his butt.

  4. mike w. says:

What about unity and reaching across the aisle? I thought the Dems were all for that?

  5. delawaredem says:

After we win the election, Mike. Right now, all Joe Lieberman is to the Democratic Party is a traitor, and you do not let known traitors into campaign strategy meetings.

  6. DPN says:

Hey Mike W, this doesn’t concern you.

  7. jason330 says:

I’m for unity when it comes to Lieberman. I want to unite his ass with my foot.

  8. pandora says:

Speaking at the Republican convention is not reaching across the aisle… it’s a betrayal. How would Republicans view Colin Powell or Chuck Hagel if they had given a speech at the Dem convention? Just sayin’

  9. liberalgeek says:

He is a New England Zell Miller.

  10. Phantom says:

Lieberman knows he is out but is just trying to straddle the freaking fence so that the independents and democrates in Connecticut don’t go after him too hard. He is going to be stuck as a republithug come 2009 so this is just a warmup and then when he is up for reelection it will be bye bye JOE.

  11. edisonkitty says:

I think Joe L. went the whole Zell and that extra bag o’ chips, too. Zell didn’t beg Obama to campaign for him, give a lauditory speech about what a great pres. Obama would make, THEN go to the RNC and pull his stunt.

  12. Joe C says:

    Droopy Dog’s day is done.

  13. Nancy Willing says:

Since McCain has said that he is going to put Democrats in his cabinet, he must have been alluding to Lieberman (former D).
    Sec. of State?

  14. anon says:

    Jason –

Who gets the Chairmanship of Lieberman’s committee if he is kicked out?

    I’ll give you one guess…

  15. anon2 says:

Lieberman very well could be Sec. of State. Are you guys getting it yet? Obama is done. The dems nominated the most unqualified man in history who was too ignorant and arrogant to put Hillary on the ticket thus opening the door for Palin. Seen the polls lately. This one is over!

  16. Bookem says:

    Heil Harry!

  17. Umbiba says:

“Ultimately, Joe will have to answer to the voters of Connecticut.”

Thankfully, he already has. They asked him to serve six more years, and soundly rejected the liberal putz used by the state Democratic Party to stab him in the back.

    Game, set, MATCH!

“The dems nominated the most unqualified man in history who was too ignorant and arrogant to put Hillary on the ticket thus opening the door for Palin. Seen the polls lately. This one is over!”

I declare this one will be over when Jason starts the car and closes the garage door!!!!!

  18. rsmitty says:

Mother @#$%^!!! Truth has a way of screwing up good stories!!! Granted, they traced this back to “Roll Call” as the culprit, though.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/>While it is no secret that the Democratic Caucus is disappointed in Senator Lieberman’s attacks on Senator Obama, the irresponsible report that Senator Lieberman has been excluded from caucus meetings is completely untrue, Reid spokesman Jim Manley said in a statement released Monday

  19. rsmitty says:

methinks I got hung up in SPAM!!!! HELP!!!!

  20. pandora says:

    I think I freed you!

  21. Susan Regis Collins says:

    From above:

“Dems should get rid of Lieberman NOW! ”

“I’m for unity when it comes to Lieberman. I want to unite his ass with my foot.”

“The people of Connecticut need to recall his butt.”

    “Droopy Dog’s day is done.”

Soooooooo, now what’s the treatment for the Weird Ken doll for fraternizing w/the ‘enemy’? Try inserting ‘Weird Ken’ and Delaware where you have Lieberman and Conn.

Me thinks there is way too much myopia in this thread.

PS Ever notice his name begins with “Lie”…..

  22. suze says:

I’m from CT and have been totally disgusted by Lieberman for a while now. Please go to liebermanmustgo.com and sign the petition to help throw the bum out!

  23. John Feroce says:

You can’t be that foolish to want to give away majority of the Senate because the man has a Republican friend and really believes he is better for the country.

  24. suze says:

The Dems won’t need him after this election.

  25. TomaHawk says:

With Lieberman on the Repub side, the Senate is split 50/50. With Cheney voting to break a tie, then the Repubs will control the Senate for the rest of this session. There’s still a lot of business to be done before the end of the year. Since either party will be able to easily filibuster an opposition bill, the Senate can be rendered impotent until the new session begins. Hopefully there will then be an absolute Dem majority.

  26. anon88 says:

John Feroce, worst analyst ever: Are you just a moron? The only thing Joe agrees with you about is Iraq/terrorism. Why? Because he’s tied to Israel, of course. Why are the Democrats freaked? Because the GOP wants to move the deep-pocketed, Israel-supporting Jewish vote from the Dems to the GOP. Simple as that.

The Dems’ only solution is to cut him off at the knees, or watch other Jewish Democrats follow him.

Get a clue, John. These guys don’t do anything on principle, on either side.
