Song of the Day 6/26: John Prine, “Lake Marie”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on June 26, 2019 1 Comment

This isn’t John Prine’s most famous song, but it’s the one that many of his fans — including Bob Dylan — consider his greatest. Unlike most of his story songs, this one has an inscrutable plot — each of the three verses seems unrelated to the others. The first is about how the Twin Lakes, […]

Whoa. Talk about lack of notice. Check this out from Legislative Council: The Joint Finance Committee will meet Sunday, June 30 in the JFC Hearing room to draft the grant-in-aid bill. Sunday, June 30? The last day of session? That means that the public will not see what goodies are being tucked into this bill […]

Russian GRU and GOP Prep for Dem Debates

While the Democratic candidates are getting ready to try to distinguish themselves from an enormous field in tomorrow’s first debate, the Russian Intelligence Directorate (GRU) and the Republican National Committee will be preparing to unleash their coordinated opposition research and send out a stream of attacks on the candidates and policies. RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel […]

Song of the Day 6/25: George Harrison, “Wah Wah”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on June 25, 2019 0 Comments

Here’s another song that, for reasons I can’t fathom, has never been employed for its obvious calling as a TV commercial. It’s Hoagiefest time at the region’s favorite convenience store, and though the chain has in the past used Beatles-esque music and Peter Max-style visuals, it has never made the no-brainer decision to use the […]

Things I’m hoping to see at tomorrow night’s debate watching party

At Autumn Arch Brewery tomorrow, I’d be looking for two things. 1) Some DL peeps I’ve never met face to face.

2) All the Democratic candidates spending 100% of their time on camera bashing Trump and calling for unprecedented Democratic unity.

Is that too much to ask? I don’t think so. This is a Code Red situation, folks.

When Knitters Have More Guts that Lisa Blunt Rochester

Our mute member of Congress could learn something from the knitting community. A popular knitting social media website has banned support for President Donald Trump on its platform, accusing his administration of propagating “open white supremacy.” Ravelry, a community site that allows users to share ideas about knitting and textile projects, said in a blog […]
