Anti “Black Friday” the term and the day.

Filed in National by on November 21, 2007

Today I’m kicking off a campaign to replace the phrase “black Friday” with the phrase “the day after Thanksgiving.”

Who is with me?

You don’t have to get all up in anybody’s grill.  Simply say, “I prefer using the term ‘the day after Thanksgiving’ .”

I like Thanksgiving Friday (sorta like Easter Monday).

However, you must realize, in our culture, this is one of the uses of ‘black’that is positive: black Friday is the first day retail (hopes) expects to move outta the ‘red’ and into ‘black’ (making a profit).

I like think of the term “black friday” as both racist and consumerist. That way I can hate on it twice as much.

wait till you see my Thanksgiving day post…

you should sneak a peek at it 🙂

  4. anon. says:

Gee, I thought it was called black Friday because of the Hens/Hornets game was being played on Friday instead of Saturday?

  5. anon says:

That muffled sound you hear is 10,000 uptight white guys trying not to laugh because that would be wrong.

I have always been partial to the “black” of black Friday….It’s the only day I know where you can get moving and get outside before the post holiday hangover headache hits, get the shopping done, get home, unpack and take a football nap, then go out for both dinner and socializing, without ever having to see the sun..

Black Friday is appropriate. But then maybe the 10,000 of you are too much of a “wussy” to really appreciate it…….
