A top level Republican IT consultant who was set to testify in a case alleging GOP election tampering in Ohio died in a plane crash late Friday night.

and gee look…

The Republican consultant accused of involvement in alleged vote-rigging in Ohio in 2004 was warned that his plane might be sabotaged before his death in a crash Friday night, according to a Cleveland CBS affiliate.

Connell was the subject of a lawsuit by liberal lawyer Clifford Arnebeck, perhaps most well known for suing on behalf of 37 Ohio residents to block Bush’s electoral college victory in 2004. Arnebeck had alleged Connell’s involvement in a ploy to “flip” votes from then Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry to then-President George W. Bush.

Go figure. A person that was said to be part of vote tampering in Ohio for the Bush 2004 election was set to testify dies in a plane crash.

European nations have begun intensive discussions both within and among their governments on whether to resettle detainees from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as a significant overture to the incoming Obama administration, according to senior European officials and U.S. diplomats.

The willingness to consider accepting prisoners who cannot be returned to their home countries, because of fears they may be tortured there, represents a major change in attitude on the part of European governments. Repeated requests from the Bush administration that European allies accept some Guantanamo Bay detainees received only refusals.

Hmmm I wonder what would cause them to shift…soooooo dramatically

Lying awake

He sipped the last of his drink. Closed his eyes momentarily to try and absorb the pleasure of the final taste slipping down his tongue and holding there for a few seconds. The first and last sips are always the best. Eyes open, he turns to his left, clicks the light off and in the darkness steps to the spiral staircase a room away. It is a trip he has made hundreds of times over the years. His hand reaches out before him and like a mid-air refueling the railing and his hand become one. In a controlled heave, his hand pulls him up onto the first step and the ascent begins, creaking and crackling as it did the first night he called it home. It doesn’t matter how many times he climbs the steps, they will still creek under his weight. The day will come when one day, he can make it up as quiet as a cat maneuvering in the night with its’ owners sleeping. Tonight is not that night. He reaches the landing, looks out the big window overlooking his driveway and yard.

Oh my gosh…

it wasn’t Clinton’s fault…

As for Mr. Bush’s banking regulators, they once brandished a chain saw over a 9,000-page pile of regulations as they promised to ease burdens on the industry. When states tried to use consumer protection laws to crack down on predatory lending, the comptroller of the currency blocked the effort, asserting that states had no authority over national banks.

The administration won that fight at the Supreme Court. But Roy Cooper, North Carolina’s attorney general, said, “They took 50 sheriffs off the beat at a time when lending was becoming the Wild West.”

The president did push rules aimed at forcing lenders to more clearly explain loan terms. But the White House shelved them in 2004, after industry-friendly members of Congress threatened to block confirmation of his new housing secretary.

In the 2004 election cycle, mortgage bankers and brokers poured nearly $847,000 into Mr. Bush’s re-election campaign, more than triple their contributions in 2000, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. The administration did not finalize the new rules until last month.

I am the translator masheen that Donsqyuishy has hired to tran-sa-late stories in the Lib-er-al-me-di-a.  This is my first translaceshun:

The White House was moving closer yesterday to a dramatic restructuring of the nation’s ailing automakers, deliberating among several options including an “orderly” bankruptcy in return for an emergency government infusion of billions of dollars.

Insert beeping and mechanical noises and then a whirling…now a whizziing…fast popping noise…
and steam valve noise:

translaceshun: bye-bye you blue collar fucks. you are worthless. bye-bye to that pension you thought you had. haha hoho hehe. welcome to the free market.

Just softening the edges this point

It’s pretty clear that we are really just putting the finishing touches in Iraq.

If I put on my project manager hat on for a second I’d say we are somewhere in between the Execution and Closure stage of the PM life cycle. We just need to do a little QA’ing on this thing to make sure we can move from yellow to green.  I’m thinking that perhaps we do an End-to-End test to see if we still have any bugs.  I doubt we will come across any, but due dilligence never hurt anyone.  This project has been under the Directors nose for quite some time and he is ready to move on already.  After the end-to-end test proves satisfactory, I’d say we can go green on this sucker. Move it down off the action plan and to the completed section on our spreadsheet.  Then we can set up some follow up meetings on the tickler for some time later 3rd qtr 09.  We can check back with the SME’s and Process Lead’s to make sure there weren’t any gaps in the original plan that need buttoning up.

Really, there is nothing like completing a project on time and being able to move on to the next war.

Boys, good work on this one.  No time to relax though, the competition never rests and we can’t either.
