Irony

It could be me, and I’d hate to offend anyone, but is there any Irony in the fact that the guy that coined the phrase “moral majority” passed away right at the end of Bush’s Presidency?

Weyrich stitched the religious, social-issue voters into the secular fabric of the Republican Party. He co-founded the Washington-based Heritage Foundation in 1973 as a counterbalance to the liberal Brookings Institution and launched what became an influential network of conservative think tanks and talk radio shows that contributed to the culture wars of the past three decades.

Ah yes, the man that essentially gave us Limbaugh, Hannity and helped impeach Clinton. Reading that bio he seems like a nice fella.

Will the NJ cover this?

Looks like our Drug Buddies up on 202 were pushing some high grade stuff

The integrity of the Nobel prize was called into question last night after it emerged that a member of the jury also sat on the board of a pharmaceuticals giant that benefited from the award of this year’s prize for medicine.

Prosecutors were studying whether AstraZeneca, the London-based multi-national pharmaceutical company, could have exerted undue influence on the award.

The joint winner of this year’s Nobel Prize for Medicine, Harald zur Hausen, was recognised for his work on the human papilloma virus (HPV), which can lead to cervical cancer. AstraZeneca has a stake in two lucrative vaccines against the virus

I’m not going to lie, I love that fact that we have two handfuls of huge fortune 500 companies right in our backyard and the NJ never seems to be able to break a story about any malfeasance done by them. I wonder if that is one of the selling points the governors give.

“Hey, listen” (looks around to see if anyone is watching) “Our press is horrendous, the people in this state couldn’t blow a whistle if it was surgically attached to their lips. You are more than safe here”

You’d think with all the people in this area, someone would leak something to someone about something somewhere somehow.

hey look, Insurance companies, helping you…the taxpayer

From the Project on Government Oversight’s letter to congressional oversight committees:

As you know, the TARP was created for the express purpose of buttressing the financial system by assisting institutions in danger of going under. In the language of the statute, the TARP was meant to “provide authority for the Federal Government to purchase and insure certain types of troubled assets for the purposes of providing stability to and preventing disruption in the economy and financial system and protecting taxpayers.” However, we are concerned that some institutions are taking advantage of the law, assuming the trappings of failure in order to feed at the TARP trough.

It has come to our attention that a number of insurance companies are attempting to qualify for TARP funds by purchasing banks.

Helping you the taxpayer get a 12 incher rammed up your kiester….KWS, keep up the good work!

It’s official more job cuts by B of A in Delaware soon to come

While I know you all think that this:

Consumers to be spared from higher rates on existing balances under new rules for credit cards

is going to be a great thing. But in the end, I’m sure as hard as Bank of America and the other monoliths downtown were trying to keep it from happening, in the back of their head they didn’t give a shit because now they can let go of hundreds of people that work in Retention.

I’m sure they figured out that this is going to cut down on call volume and customers complaining. So guess what? Less people you need on staff to take calls and handle complaints.

Woohoooo!

I turned on DTR…

to hear Burris blaming the UAW and their 22lb 9 oz contract for the woes of the American Auto industry. Ford has a state of the art factory in Brazil. They don’t have one in the US because of the UAW. It’s pretty much entirely the UAW’s fault at this point, with the exception of 2 management problems, which I failed to remember as I was trying to listen to the rest of the bullshit he was spewing.

Oh, but Dave is in favor of people making as much money as they can….

Wow Dave, you are udderly amazing.

I guess you didn’t read this post yesterday

PS, Dave’s show consists of reading you the newspaper and saying “um” or “uh”

We are screwed people and I don’t think anyone is grasping it

In case none of you are paying attention:

The Federal Reserve entered a new era on Tuesday, lowering its benchmark interest rate virtually to zero and declaring that it would now fight the recession by pumping out vast amounts of money to businesses and consumers through an expanding array of new lending programs.

Going further than expected, the central bank cut its target for the overnight federal funds rate to a range of zero to 0.25 percent and brought the United States to the zero-rate policies that Japan used for years in its own fight against deflation.

Perhaps them already having poured a few trillion to AIG, Citi, Fannie etc wasn’t enough eh?

So, you’d think taking a historic such as basically giving away free money would do wonders for their brothers at arms over on Wall Street right? How’d that work out today?

Of much greater practical importance, the Fed bluntly announced that it would print as much money as necessary to revive the frozen credit markets

I haven’t been following this thing to closely, but as I read that above statement, and again I could be totally off base so bare with me, didn’t we just do some crazy bailout with no strings attached for like 700,000,000,000.00 like 3 weeks ago?

just an FYI, Bush is still the President.
