Someone explain this shit to me, please

I naively thought the GOP would be glad to move beyond the box office poison that is Donald Trump, but nope.  Fealty to Trump is THE organizing principle of the Republican Party now and through at least the mid-terms if not longer.   It makes no fucking sense to me.

Cheney is now truly on her way out, so that looks like the last Republican who sounded reasonably sane when talking about America being a democracy.

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on May 4, 2021 21 Comments

Did anyone in rock history rise to the big occasion better than Prince? His Super Bowl halftime show in the Miami rain stands as the best has come close to matching his concert in the Miami rain, and his blistering guitar solo at his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame left a […]

“On May 7, 1915, a German U-boat torpedoed and sank the RMS Lusitania, a British ocean liner en route from New York to Liverpool. Of the more than 1,900 passengers and crew members on board, more than 1,100 perished, including more than 120 Americans. If this grim tragedy teaches us anything, it is that we need to be steadfast in our commitment to forging a bi-partisan agreement to ensure Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan is watered down into nothing.” – Senator Chris Coons, Noted Christian.

With House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy now tasked with ousting Liz Cheney, I am reminded of Oscar Wilde’s take on fox hunting – The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable.

Mixed Covid news – For the first time in over a year, Los Angeles County reported no Covid-related deaths, but Oregon is going back into lockdown due to the UK variant. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

A new arena floor is being added to Rome’s iconic Colosseum to give visitors an idea of how the ancient Italian structure looked when gladiators fought and (no doubt) because it really doesn’t work as a tourist attraction with no floor.

But first… remember how Brexit happened almost by accident when David Cameron announced a referendum without giving one fucking thought to what leaving the EU actually meant? Well under the Good Friday Agreement, Northern Ireland is required to have a unification referendum if certain conditions are met. The conditions are not close to being met but you can’t be too careful, and some folks are not willing to bear the consequences of more accidental upheaval.

Protesters Target Home of National Embarrassment Chris Coons

Delawareans elect a lot of corporate tools who pretend to be Democrats, but of all the corporate tools, Sen. Chris Coons has become the corporate tooliest. In today’s more progressive Democratic Party, he stands out as a national embarrassment. See if you can follow this pathetic excuse for logic Coons trotted out in a speech […]

Song of the Day 5/3: Curtis Mayfield, “Blue Monday People”

Curtis Mayfield’s 1975 LP “There’s No Place Like America Today” seems to get more attention for its pointed cover image (slightly altered from a 1937 Margaret Bourke-White photo) than its content, which a lot of critics think is uneven, and some thought even worse; Robert Christgau gave it a D+, calling it “noodling” and “incoherent.” […]

What the fuck do liberals have to do to get a headline like this?

What the fuck do liberals have to do to get a headline like this?

Some Trumper fuckwits put together a 11,000 person Facebook group (less than half Delawareans) and they are a “rising conservative movement” meanwhile progressives basically re-made the state legislature in November.

‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: April, 2021

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, Featured by on May 3, 2021 2 Comments

So many of you (well, my oldest daughter) have asked, ‘Where’s your Fave Tunes list for April’?  It’s right here. It may still be a work-in-progress (logistical stuff),  but it’s really good as it is. Enjoy! Simply gorgeous. A great kickoff to this month’s list: Pair the last one with this one, and you’ll be […]

What the fuck is wrong with Republicans? Seriously, these people are some kind of fucked up. Lest you think that maybe the Mormons, who didn’t much care for Trump, are any better than the rest of them, the 2,100 attendees at the Utah GOP convention last night booed Mitt Romney and called him a communist […]

The Latest Rethug Attempt To Label Rather Than Legislate.  Prepare to hear ‘Lefty social engineering’ redound through their media echo chamber: That echoed a message sketched out immediately after Biden’s speech by Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who gave the nationally televised GOP response and accused Democrats of wanting “to put Washington even more in the […]

Checking in on Delaware’s Legislative Black Caucus OR Where the FUCK is Delaware’s Legislative Black Caucus on Police Reform?

Filed in National by on May 1, 2021 9 Comments

Here are the very mild police reform proposal from the Legislative Black Caucus last year. Pass Senate Bill 191, a bill introduced in February, which would start the process of amending the Delaware Constitution to protect against discrimination on the basis of race, color and national origin. Create an African American Task Force that would look […]

Song of the Day 4/30: The Clash, “Rudie Can’t Fail”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 30, 2021 0 Comments

They clearly weren’t singing about Giuliani, who doesn’t do much except fail. He did, however, use this tune as his intro song at campaign rallies when he ran for president in 2008. He failed at that, too. “London Calling” included a couple of Jamaican covers (“Revolution Rock,” “Wrong ‘Em Boyo”), but this one is a […]
