Delaware Political Weekly-Feb. 25-March 2, 2012

The Democrats have a candidate, and one who appears to be quite credible at that, in the newly-relocated 11th Representative District. The four Republican candidates for President met last week's filing deadline. The primary is on Saturday, April 24. New Castle County Executive Paul Clark has two primary opponents, which he likes. And once again, we have the Return of the Rasslin' Barrister: Ron Poliquin.

Delaware Liberal Tracking Poll Results — Sher Valenzuela

Not many people voted in this poll, probably because they are confused as to why misspelled Cher's name. Obviously, Sher Valenzuela, the Republican candidate for Lt. Governor, has work to do in the name recognition department. 42% are unsure or undecided. 32% gave her a strongly unfavorable rating, and overall, she has a 48% unfavorable rating, which has to be just the generic unfavorable rating the Republican Party enjoys in the State of Delaware. Boy, you guys really destroyed your party and brand in the First State.

Late Night Video — The Speechless Banker

A few days ago, there was a press opportunity with ECB representatives, where Irish journalist Vincent Browne wanted to know specifically why the people of Ireland are being asked to live with the debt burden of a defunct bank. This is the kind of questioning many of us would like to see our own journalists perform when standing in front of folks who are taking crazy decisions on our behalf. These questions are fierce, fearless and utterly just. And the banker has nothing to say.

Rush Limbaugh Will Agree To Contraception Coverage If Georgetown Student Posts Sex Tapes Online

LIMBAUGH: "So Miss Fluke, and the rest of you Feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex. We want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch." Has any Republican denounced this pervert's comments yet? Know what, Republicans? Keep going down this path. See you in November.

Adventures in Subscribing to the Digital News Journal

So the NJ has put up their paywall, and you are limited to 5 articles (per week? per month?) and they helpfully count down the number of free articles you have left in a box in the lower right hand of your screen every time you click on a new article. I waited until the paywall finally went into effect to sign up (for the record, I actually buy this paper every day I am in town) and preserve my access to online articles. I've tried subscribing twice online and finally called today to figure out why I still can't get the NJ online.

Questions…

First, wouldn't the Blunt Amendment* allow an anti-vaccine boss deny coverage for immunizations? Second, if you are a member of a Catholic Parish could you be denied birth control coverage?

Thursday Open Thread [3.1.12]

Yes, Andrew Brietbart is dead. He apparently had heart issues, and he just collapsed. I can't and won't descend to his level, spewing vitriol as he did following the death of Ted Kennedy. But I won't praise or laud him either. What I will say is that he was only 43 years old, and no one should die that young, especially when he has a young family.

A Young Man’s Response to Pointy-Headed Republicans

A good friend of mine from DC, Bob Witeck, posted a response from his nephew to Indiana State Rep. Bob Morris, who was the only member of the Indiana House to refuse to sign on to a resolution honoring the Girl Scouts. With Bob's permission, I am sharing his nephew's brilliant rebuttal.

Delaware Liberal Tracking Poll Results — Jeff Cragg

You people are harsh. Jeff Cragg is still basically unknown to almost all of Delaware, including the politically knowledgeable that read DL. All we know about him is that he is a businessman who is a conservative Republican. And that was enough to give him 48% disapproval rating. 24% just don't know enough about him to make any judgments. 28% approve of him. As an aside, Mr. Cragg bears a striking resemblance to myself, so much so that I feel compelled to declare that I am not Jeff Cragg and I am not running for Governor as a Republican.
