FBI Finds Large Cache of Take Out Menus in Biden’s Rehoboth Beach House

Jammed into a kitchen drawer, the FBI found menus from Taco Reho, SEED eatery, Frank & Louie’s Italian Specialties, Henlopen City Oyster House, Mariachi Restaurant, Egg, Cafe Azafran, Lupo, Indigo Rehoboth, Touch of Italy, Arena’s Deli, and many others.  Some from establishments that closed years ago.

“These come in but nobody ever seems to throw any out,” explained Biden.

Study by Large Downtown Real Estate Owners Finds  – Commuting is Good for You

For most American workers who commute, the trip to and from the office takes nearly one full hour a day—26 minutes each way on average, with 7.7% of workers spending two hours or more on the road.

Many people think of commuting as a chore and a waste of time. However, during the remote work surge resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, several journalists curiously noted that people were—could it be?—missing their commutes. One woman told the Washington Post that even though she was working from home, she regularly sat in her car in the driveway at the end of the workday in an attempt to carve out some personal time and mark the transition from work to non-work roles.

Preacher Accused of Enabling Pedophile at Creationist ‘Dino’ Theme Park – Still No Word on Whether Any Drag Brunch or Drag Queen Related Event Played a Part

Billy Summers had only known Kent Hovind for a couple of days when Hovind told him about the convicted child sex offender who sometimes visited Hovind’s Christian amusement park.

They were in Hovind’s car, picking up supplies for Dinosaur Adventure Land (DAL), the creationist theme park that Hovind operates in a quiet pocket of Alabama. Hovind spoke about a longtime friend who had done time for battery and committing lewd acts on children under the age of 14.

Iowa Gov Trying to Make Hawkeye State School Book Bans as Looney at Florida’s

DES MOINES — If one Iowa school decides to remove a book from its library, all Iowa schools would be required to do the same under a proposal floated this week by Gov. Kim Reynolds at an event hosted by a national group that advocates for parents’ rights in public education.

At the Thursday night event hosted by the group Moms for Liberty, Reynolds said under her proposal, educational material removed by any Iowa school district would be required to be removed by every district in the state.

Republicans – More Russian Psyops, Please !

So first, it’s important to understand that Russia’s propaganda & disinformation ecosystem is made up different parts that may appear independent, but are really like machines in an assembly line. They work together to manufacture, launder, tailor, & disseminate content. This assembly line includes overt state-funded propaganda, as well as media figures, proxy websites, fake social media personas, and more.

Poll Results:

Lumpy was judged by 60% of you  to be more dumb than Bonini.  With the nickname “Lumpy” it must be hard not to be regarded as the dumbest person in any room you happen to be in.   I wonder his dumb is dumb like a fox?

Republicans view Trump as I viewed Tom Carper

Prior to Sarah McBride positioning herself a legitimate statewide candidate with the ability to knock off Tom Carper – I held the position that only the Grim Reaper could remove Carper.

It seems many Republicans feel the same way about Trump.  They are stuck with him until he croaks:

In his recent book Thank You for Your Servitude, my colleague Mark Leibovich quoted a former Republican representative who bluntly summarized his party’s plan for dealing with Trump: “We’re just waiting for him to die.” As it turns out, this is not an uncommon sentiment. In my conversations with Republicans, I heard repeatedly that the least disruptive path to getting rid of Trump, grim as it sounds, might be to wait for his expiration.

The odd history of a bad law

If you’ve haven’t been following The Delaware Call’s  LEOBOR reform series, you should be.

Do you know why the police in Delaware have a codified bill of rights keeping the misconduct of its officers secret?

A Republican Governor vetoed a LEOBOR bill because the Attorney General opposed the measure, but it was eventually signed into law by a Democratic Governor (now US Senator)?

Read part II of our series by assistant public defender, Misty Seemans, on the odd history of a bad law.

Nobody gives a fuck about the deficit

Except for weirdo GOP members of congress, the debt isn’t an important issue.

…And when the Times/Sienna poll asked midterm voters to name the most important problem facing America, only one of the survey’s 1,641 respondents mentioned the debt, the deficit, or federal spending.

One fucking person out of 1,641.   As Eschaton’s Duncan Black notes, the new generation of GOP weirdo is too busy Owning The Libs to keep trying to convince people that the deficit is going to kill them.

Two Things I Love About DeSantis’ Response to Trump

If you are not as obsessed with Trump v. DeSantis as I am – here is a quick recap:

The Loser Ex-President made campaign stops where he told reporters that DeSantis would be “disloyal” if he ran for the Republican nomination and he knocked DeSantis’ record on Covid-19.

Desantis basically fired back with – Well I won my re-election, and you didn’t, so the people have spoken. And also, suck it.

Here’s what I love.  It ignores the BIG LIE and might be the first time I’ve heard a MAGAt say “Trump lost. Get over it.”  That’s good for America if civilian Republicans are now allowed to follow suit and acknowledge the simple truth – Trump is a loser who lost.

The second thing I love is how the smug little fucker (DeSantis) smugly just shrugged off trump as a loser and that’s pressing Trump’s biggest button.  Trump hates being called a loser and to be called one by the a smug little twerp like DeSantis NO DOUBT landed in Mara Lago like a kick to the balls.

It all adds up to Trump and DeSantis going full on berserker during this campaign, and that is great news for America.

The Republicans are going to nominate Trump or DeSantis. Both would end American Democracy, but I honestly can’t say which would be worse.

DeSantis Makes 2024 Ambitions Clear As He Pours Gasoline On His ‘Woke’ Education Fire

As he “actively” prepares for a presidential run, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) announced Tuesday that he plans to defund diversity, equity and inclusion programs in every public university in the state.

The plan is part of the Republican governor’s larger plot to remake the Florida public school system into a hub for far-right ideology, which reportedly includes grounding curricula in “the history and philosophy of Western Civilization” and “course correct universities’ missions to align education for citizenship of the constitutional republic and Florida’s existing and emerging workforce needs.”

It’s also seemingly part of a broader scheme for DeSantis to stay in the national news cycle as he riles up the most far-right members of his base ahead of 2024.

The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism, that unveils the national, local, and global impacts of the political machinations of wealthy soldiers for Christ.

A revelatory investigation of the Religious right’s rise to political power. Stewart shows that the real power of the movement lies in a dense network of think tanks, advocacy groups, and pastoral organizations, embedded in a rapidly expanding community of international alliances with like-minded, anti-democratic religious nationalists around the world, including Russia. She follows the money behind the movement and traces much of it to a group of super-wealthy, ultraconservative donors and family foundations. The Christian nationalist movement is far more organized and better funded than most people realize. It seeks to control all aspects of government and society. Its successes have been stunning, and its influence now extends to every aspect of American life, from the white house to state house capitols, from our schools to our hospitals.”

The grift is strong in this one:

Thank you to everyone who came out to Saturday’s Sussex County Republicans event featuring (professional wokeness victim and “author”)  Loren Spivack!

If you missed it, CNN can fill you on Mr. Spivack’s schtick:

In the center of town where the bureaucrats dwell

And the housing projects emit their own unique smell

And there’s nothing to buy or even to sell

Lies the corpse of the beaten Gorax.

Thus begins the self-proclaimed anti-environmentalist parody book “The Gorax,” copies of which were floating through the line of supporters waiting to hear Donald Trump at a South Carolina rally.

Loren Spivack created these Dr. Seuss-themed tales for the Republican set …

“The Gorax” is one of three books written in verse.

“There are about 20,000 of these in circulation,” Spivack said. “It’s pretty good for a book that’s in zero bookstores.”

The first, written in 2010, is modeled after Seuss’ classic “The Cat in the Hat” and lampoons the Obama administration. Spivack said he followed the initial printing with five new editions over the years. He followed with “The Gorax,” which targets former Vice President Al Gore. Gorax. Gore. Get it?

Hilarious stuff.

With his squeaker of a win, Old “Phone it in” Ramone is, not surprisingly, everybody’s odds on pick to be in his last year of Leg Hall service.   These are the other finalist:  Lawson (13%) accidental discharge(?), Ruth Briggs King (11%) boredom (?), Speigs (8%) & Short (8%).   I’ll tag this post #predictions to return to it in 24 months and see how well we made out.

Via death, defeat, or disinterest – which DEGOPer is least likely to return to elective office after the 2024 election?

Mike Ramone – 39%

Dave Lawson – 13%

Ruth Briggs King – 11%

JEFFREY N. SPIEGELMAN – 8%

DANIEL B. SHORT – 8%

The Forthcoming Liberal/Conservative Joint Statement on Decency and Being a Decent American

I have this idea that I’d like to sit down with an actual bone-fide conservative and uncover areas of general agreement.  I guess I still want to believe that there are conservatives that put loyalty to the country above loyalty to their fucked up party.

I know I’m unicorn hunting but if anyone knows anyone, you know where to find me.   Once we’re done chatting and figuring out the “common ground” Coons keep saying is out there somewhere, I want to write a post and call it: The Liberal/Conservative Joint Statement on Decency and Being a Decent American.

DL Open Thread Monday January 30 2023 – GO BIRDS!

Eagles are headed back to the big show.  I started out this season blogging little post game updates, but the team was so good; so business like and predictable that I got bored with it. Go Birds!  Keep being boring.

Thinking about the Eagles in those terms reminds me of an America that was similarly business like and predictable.  Some of you are too young to recall it, but prior to NAFTA, de-unionization and the gutting of the industrial middle-class, prior to the rise of Fox News, prior to the ascendency of outright frauds in politics America was business like, predictable and delightfully boring.

Granted, the soviets had nukes, the CIA was fighting “communism” by installing history’s worst despots around the globe, and civil rights at home were not universally recognized or applied but things seemed to be trending in the right direction.  There was a broad consensus that the country should endeavor to be more good and just, and less unjust and bad.   Who ever thought we’d look back at the 1970’s and think “That might have been America’s high water mark.”

While Republicans who are active in the party are angry idiots and/or greedy assholes, some regular civilian Republicans are not those things.  Ultimately we are all being jerked around by and Australian billionaire committed to leveraging the first amendment (and human misery) to ascend to zillionaire.

People dislike their political opponents for views that most don’t actually hold.

(Over)estimation of political opponents’ agreement with extreme issues predicted cross-partisan dislike, which in turn predicted unwillingness to engage with opponents, foreclosing opportunities to correct misperceptions.

Obviously “both sides” are not equally complicit, but point taken.

GOP’s Civil War – Angry Idiots vs the Greedy Assholes

DANA POINT, Calif. (AP) — Ronna McDaniel has become the longest serving leader of the Republican National Committee since the Civil War. But now, she must confront a modern-day civil war within the GOP.

Frustrated Republicans from state capitals to Capitol Hill to the luxury Southern California hotel where RNC members gathered this week are at odds over how to reverse six years of election disappointments. And while there are many strong feelings, there is no consensus even among the fighting factions about the people, policies or political tactics they should embrace.

On one side: a growing number of elected officials eager to move beyond the divisive politics and personality of former President Donald Trump despite having no clear alternative. And on the other: the GOP’s vocal “Make America Great Again” wing, which has no cohesive agenda yet is quick to attack the status quo in both parties.

Far-Right shitheads, be they American or Swedes, are always eager to carry water for Putin.

Putin Organized a Quran Burning to Sabotage Sweden’s NATO Bid

Swedish journalist Chang Frick, affiliated with Russian propagandist channel RT, paid for Danish far-right activist Rasmus Paludan to publicly burn the Quran near the Turkish embassy in Sweden.

The protest that took place on Saturday caused backlash in Turkey and led to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan saying that Sweden shouldn’t expect Ankara’s support for its NATO membership bid. Swedish media suggest that Moscow was behind the Quran burning, using Frick, who has worked as a freelancer for RT and its subsidiary Ruptly.

County GOP Chair charged with three counts of child pornography possession

Tucker Carlson to pivot from highlighting youth pastor menace to highlighting GOP county chair menace?

Rocky Hayes, who previously served as chairman of the GOP in Jones County, South Dakota, has been charged with three counts of child pornography possession, The Argus Leader reported Thursday. The 47-year-old is facing accusations of have child sexual assault material in his Dropbox account, and he will have an initial court hearing on Feb. 9, according to court documents. Hayes was listed as the Jones County GOP chairman as recently as 2020 but his name has since been removed from the South Dakota Republican Party website. It’s unclear when he was removed as chairman. Hayes runs a graphic design and communications firm; a spokesperson for the South Dakota GOP told the Leader that the party’s relationship with both Hayes and his business were “terminated.”

Ted Cruz is an everyman. Some call him a working class hero, with his finger on the pulse on the concerns of “real Americans”

Ted Cruz Wants to Use Crypto in U.S. Capitol Vending Machines

The ACCEPT Resolution could see the Capitol Complex accepting cryptocurrency for payment at vending machines.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch (or snack) and Texas Senator Ted Cruz knows this, which is why the conservative wants to bring cryptocurrency into Congress.

On Wednesday, Cruz introduced the ACCEPT Resolution, which stands for Adopting Cryptocurrency in Congress as an Exchange of Payment for Transactions Resolution. If adopted, the resolution could see the U.S. government contracting with food vendors and vending machine operators that accept cryptocurrency. The ACCEPT Resolution is not a bill, but a concurrent resolution, which are used to make or amend rules for the House and Senate, meaning that the ACCEPT Resolution wouldn’t apply to any vending machines or food sales outside of the Capitol property.

How a fictitious Hunter Biden controversy went from being invented on Twitter to a congressional investigation in 5 days

  1. A random wingnut posts a form that Biden filled out that lists office expenses and misinterprets it.
  2. Miranda Devine, a NY Post reporter with 350K followers tweets out the false claim.
  3. Fox News (also Murdoch-owned) goes all in on the story, with Tucker Carlson claiming that “Miranda Devine of the New York Post has also done extensive reporting on it.”  (She hadn’t)
  4. Fox has members of Congress on, and asks them what they are doing to investigate the false claims.
  5. Rep James Comer agrees and promises investigations.
  6. Done and done.  From one erroneous tweet to govt investigations in 5 days.
