Nancy Karib-jellybean steps down

Filed in National by on February 21, 2007 5 Comments

Nancy Karibjanian, long a staple of the news that no one watches, has decided to leave WHYY’s newscast, although she will continue to do some other things with the station. Through the years I’ve been working the balancing act of family life and broadcasting. Now as my oldest child is getting ready for college I […]

Delaware among hardest hit by Iraq War

Filed in National by on February 21, 2007 0 Comments

Delaware ranks 7th in per capita deaths in the Iraq war, according to new research.  I wonder how we rank in injuries, as the ratio of injuries to deaths is much higher in this war comparative to other conflicts.

Wonky Wednesday: A Prediction

Filed in Uncategorized by on February 21, 2007 15 Comments

As part of the effort to keep the lights on while Jason takes a break, I will be posting here on Wednesdays. LiberalGeek suggested calling my contributions, “Wonky Wednesdays,” and I couldn’t think of anything better. In Delaware’s unique corner of the blogosphere, liberals and conservatives read and even link to each other. For instance, […]

The Domino Theory

Filed in Uncategorized by on February 21, 2007 6 Comments

“West Virginia is about to move ahead of Delaware in what it offers by way of state-supported gambling. West Virginia has operated much like Delaware with slot machines at long-established horse racing tracks. (R. Williams) Last week, however, the House of Delegates voted 55-42 to authorize table games such as blackjack and roulette at the […]

Pelosi Plane Scandal Revealed!

Filed in National by on February 20, 2007 10 Comments

It was big news until AnnaNicole died.  Now it just lives in the zeitgeist of the electorate.  Turns out that not only was it bogus, but the republicans spreading the rumor didn’t do any research before jumping in with both feet.  I am so glad these jokers aren’t in the majority any more.

Terror Finance and the GOP

Filed in National by on February 20, 2007 0 Comments

Remember when the Prez was trying to tell us that it was drug dealers that were financing terrorism. Turns out that it was just republicans after all. I grant you that the only requirement to be a donor is…well..donating to the campaign. But I ask you two questions. First, what would FOX be saying right […]

Tony Blair Emboldens the Enemy

Filed in National by on February 20, 2007 4 Comments

Those stawart supporters of our adventure in Iraq, the Brits, have decided to set a timetable for withdrawal.  Almost half of their boys will be home by Christmas.  1,500 could be home by Easter.  Thank God the Bulgarians and Slovenians aren’t pulling out their 2 dozen troops from our coalition of the willing.

Hi Everybody!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWCMcdsFi-c] Hopefully I’ll be “Watson” to Liberalgeek’s “Holmes”. Jason promised me I’d get 40 virgins in paradise if I do this. If he promised Liberalgeek 50 virgins I am going to be so pissed off.

Pig Bladders Used to Regrow Fingers

Filed in National by on February 19, 2007 2 Comments

Researchers have been able to regrow body parts for mice and salamanders, and this summer they plan to try to regrow fingers for soldiers injured in Iraq.  Hopefully  after that, they can regrow some spines in the Senate.

Republicans Hold Top Spots for Popular Presidents

Filed in National by on February 19, 2007 10 Comments

The Gallup poll of Presidential popularity was just released.  At least the number one spot has been retaken by a Republican that I would have voted for.  Number one has been retaken by Lincoln, dropping Reagan to number 2.  JFK and Bill Clinton take 3 and 4 respectively.  2% of those polled had brain damage, […]

Gore says he won’t run

Filed in National by on February 18, 2007 11 Comments

I am pretty disappointed.  Al Gore told the BBC that he has no intention to run for President.  This is a shame, because he has been on the right side of issues since he lost to the Supreme Court and James Bakker in 2000.  He is planning to do an international concert ala Live8 on […]

Windfarm update

Filed in National by on February 17, 2007 1 Comment

The three energy bidders (Connectiv, NRG and Bluewater) all resubmitted their proposals, presumably unredacting(is that even a word?) more information.  According to the NJ, Bluewater revealed the most information, although how that is measured isn’t explained.  Bluewater does discuss the reliability of their proposal in their new documents.  The new documents should be released later […]

Counter to Conservative Corner

Filed in National by on February 17, 2007 11 Comments

Over at FSP, Rich Collins of Lewes lays out why conservatives and liberals are different.  He is misled and simplistic.  The argument basically boils down to “Liberals are unrealistic and Conservatives really understand the world.”  Gimme a break.  If you are going to try to boil it down to a single difference (dangerous business, that […]
